Acai

What benefits does acai have on my health?

While there is still more to be learned about acai, there have been several studies conducted about the nutritional benefits of the acai berry. These benefits are wide-ranging and important. For example, one study conducted on individuals after 6 weeks of acai berry juice consumption found an “increase in the total antioxidant capacity of plasma, attenuation of the exercise-induced muscle damage, and a substantial improvement of serum lipid profile” (Sadowska-Krępa et al. 161). This goes to show the biological benefits of long term consumption of acai, especially for athletes.

Another article reveals even more benefits. Acai berries can help “relieve a variety of health conditions, including high cholesterol, arthritis, memory deficits, weight control, and general health” (Mattice). These are extremely important for any athlete or anyone trying to get in shape. In one study conducted on runners and sprinters, several results were measured after consumption of acai berries and a downhill run. The group that consumed the acai had “significantly less muscle soreness in the quadriceps muscle compared to the placebo group. Furthermore, the  Açai  group  showed  improvements  in  range  of  motion,  agility,  and  vertical  jump displacement compared to the placebo group” (Paula Fantini et al.).
